Vectrex Joystick Autofire

1 minute, 1 second Read

Having made a joystick for the Vectrex which works great though the button click is a little on the loud side so I thought why not build an autofire.

Here is a common circuit for this task.

I would like to adjust this a little with a variable resistor to vary the autofire speed.

Ok so I knocked up the circuit above on some veroboard and I’m getting a nice square wav from the 555 timer. I only had a 20k variable resistor which was a little low so added a 5k ohm resistor in series which gave a very slow minimum pulse rate. Also used a 100nF for C2 and 10uF for C3

I found a switch and a 100k variable resistor which is a slightly too large a resistance but its a good size to feed through the case wall.

All fitted with the autofire variable adjustment with enable on/off switch and the joystick trim pots for centering.

Need to remove the old router labelling and install my very own.

Final Result

Vectrex Joystick Autofire is complete. Need to add some labelling to the case but I think I’ll do some more testing first 🙂
